Crockhet is a process of creating cloth by interlocking loops of yarn, thread, or strands of other materials utilizing a crochet hook. The name comes from the French term crochet, signifying 'small hook'. These are made of materials such as metal, wood, or vinyl and are manufactured commercially and produced in artisan workshops. The salient difference between crochet and knitting, beyond the implements used because of their production, is that all stitch in crochet is completed before proceeding with the next one, while knitting retains a large variety of stitches open at a time. (Variant forms such as Tunisian crochet and broomstick ribbons keep multiple crochet stitches open up at the same time.Basic materials required for crochet are a hook and some type of material which will be crocheted, mostly yarn or thread. Yarn, one of the most frequently used materials for crocheting has varying weights which need to be taken into account when following patterns. Additional tools are convenient for keeping stitches counted, calculating crocheted textile, or making related accessories. For example cardboard cutouts, which may be used to make tassels, fringe, and a great many other items; a pom-pom group, used to make pom-poms; a tape solution and a gauge solution, both used for calculating crocheted work and counting stitches; a row counter; and occasionally plastic material rings, which are used for special tasks. In recent years, yarn selections have changed beyond synthetic and flower and animal-based fibers to add bamboo, qiviut, hemp, and banana stalks, to mention a few.
